Revelation was brought up in Louisville, KY’s Westend home of Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). He, later on, moved to Los Angeles’s south-central over hills and Slauson area to pursue his career as an actor, working on music video sets.

Revelation took his inspiration from the people that belonged to his home state like KY Engineering from Lexington, KY engineered for Lil Wayne, Static Major and R. Prophet (Nappy Roots). Revelation aspired to be an engineer but started out as a sample based producer, using resources like the site hiphopisread.com and the Kevin Nottingham Music blog to study the art of beat making. His music was further influenced by artists like Jay Z, Nas, Tupac, Notorious BIG, Master P and the 5 Percenter Culture. Revelation refers to himself as a new age, conscious rapper. He has a mission with his music – to spread conscious enlightenment to the inner city communities through the knowledge of self.

On March 11, 2014, Revelation released “Wave” feat. J Dilla with world-famous record producer J Dilla. The track was originally on J. Dilla’s album “Donuts”, the last album J Dilla released during his life, the instrumental “Donuts,” was released Tuesday, February 7, 2006, three days prior to his death. Four months after the release, July 17, 2014, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History & Culture announced the donation of significant artefacts from the family of award-winning, hip-hop artist and producer, James “J Dilla” Yancey. The J. Dilla collection was donated by Dilla’s mother, Maureen Yancey.

On January 17, 2014, Revelation released his debut EP Now’s the Time recreating the famed Now’s the Time painting by Basquiat introducing his Revelation 13:18 x Basquiat brand. Later that year on August 12th 2014 the day of Basquiat’s tragic death Revelation released self-produced “Old School” featuring the late, world-famous graffiti-writer turned painter, Jean-Michel Basquiat. Revelation, also a graphic designer, was influenced by Jean-Michel Basquiat because he touched on different topics in his paintings from racism to politics. Revelation on that day also released Revelation 13:18 x Basquiat EP instrumental album sampling music from Basquiat’s experimental music band Gray graphics for the EP were designed by the rapper/designer recreating a Basquiat like painting saluting Hip Hop. Highlighting Basquiat and his influence on Hip Hop Revelation also released Now’s the Time 2-EP and Beat Bop the instrumental LP. Beat Bop was considered the holy grail of hip hop songs produced by Basquiat. Basquiat used social commentary in his paintings to create a conversation which is timeless and that is the same message that Revelation tries to convey in his music. Basquiat’s love for hip hop and graffiti art was the sole reason he rose to prominence very quickly; becoming the only American artist to sell artwork in the upper 100 millions of dollars. Basquiat was a rebel at heart who always wanted to showcase Blacks as a protagonist because he wanted to change the perception of Black people.

His song Old School feat. Jean-Michel Basquiat and his Revelation 13:18 x Basquiat brand would go on to inspire a musical based on the life of Basquiat which is the focal point of a new Broadway-bound show composed by Jon Batiste, bandleader and musical director of CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The project was recently announced by producers Alan D. Marks and Barbara Marks, with Tony winner John Doyle, set to direct.

Revelation is a student of the 5 percenter ideology which his pseudonym is based on. As a student of the 5 percenter teachings in supreme mathematics, his name is significant. Supreme Mathematics is a variety of numerology specific to the theology and philosophy of the 5 percenter. Supreme mathematics is a system of understanding numerals alongside concepts and qualitative representations that are used along with the Supreme Alphabet. Supreme Mathematics: 1- Knowledge 2 – Wisdom 3 – Understanding 4 – Culture/Freedom 5 – Power/Refinement 6 – Equality 7 – God 8 -Build/Destroy 9 – Born 0 – Cipher. Revelation is the revealing or disclosing of some form of truth or knowledge through communication with a deity or other supernatural entity or entities. So, therefore, it makes sense that, through the teachings of the 5 percenter Revelation through knowledge of self, he realized he was a God. In the new era of conscious hip hop, Revelation 13:18 has stirred up controversy with his alias because in scripture Revelation 13:18 speaks to the idea of the Mark of The Beast or the Antichrist. Revelation 13:18 states that it is written in the bible that “This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666” 666 is significant in Supreme Mathematics because 666 is calculated as 6+6+6=18, 1+8=9 and the number 9 in Supreme Mathematics meaning is to be Born, which is the completion of all things in existence. All things must come from the knowledge to be born to the cypher. To be born to the knowledge of self is to be – born to the reality of one’s self. Knowledge Black man plus wisdom Black woman equal born understanding Black child which is complete within the cipher.

Jay Z is also a student of the 5 percenter teachings in supreme mathematics and a 5 percenter. Jay Z even dressed up as Basquiat for Halloween the same year of the release giving Revelation a nod in producing Old School feat. Jean-Michel Basquiat. On Jay’s 2017 project 4:44 Jay highlighted Basquiat in his 4:44 video with an esoteric connection to 666 and Revelation 13:18. Hov and Beyonce on their 2018 project Everything is Love also shows another esoteric connection to Revelation with an iconic picture next to the Monalisa showing their love for art in the ApeS**t music video, which was shot at the Louvre museum with the esoteric connection to 666 cause of the urban legend of the glass pyramid having 666 window panes; also If we dive further into Jay’s 4:44 album and make the connections, 4:44 calculated in supreme mathematics is 4+4+4 =12 1+2=3 which in supreme mathematics is (1)Knowledge + (2)Wisdom = (3)Understanding and you will learn that 4:44 flipped upside down esoterically is actually 666 an this is significant in Supreme Mathematics because again 666 calculated is 6+6+6 =18, 1+8=9 and the number 9 in Supreme Mathematics meaning is to be born which is the full chiper of Knowledge + Wisdom = Understanding (born to knowledge of self).

Jay also highlighted Basquiat on his project “Picasso Baby” from Magna Carta Holy Grail saying the line “It ain’t hard to tell I am the new Jean-Michel” and then purchased an art piece from the late GOD Basquiat titled “Mecca” for a whopping 4.5 Million. Jay has always been a supporter of Basquiat which is prevalent in his music and also inspired by his work which he and Revelation have in common.

Furthermore, World renowned UK Dj Maryanne Hobbs gave Revelation 13:18 a shout out on her Twitter page and broke his single on BBC6music adding another achievement to Revelation’s creative resume.

Revelation 13:18 is currently working on his debut Conscious Hip Hop album titled Hollywood Afrikans inspired by Basquiat’s Hollywood Africans painting taking a more political and conscious approach saluting the New Afrikan movement changing the spelling of Africans to Afrikans with a K. This album will be released under his new record label clothing and lifestyle brand founded by him Knowledge + Wisdom = Understanding Inc. Revelation 13:18 comes from the same principles and tenants as Jay-Z, Nas, Rakim, RZA and other hip hop legends indoctrinated in the 5 percenter ideology. Revelation’s music is a tribute to the culture.
